September RE Report

Posted on September 15th, 2018

A few months back, I mentioned that we have an upcoming meeting to accept nominations for positions on the Atlanta Region Executive Committee.  At the time I made a small reference to the election season for local, state, and federal officials.  While the Atlanta Region election process seems immune to the kind of campaign rhetoric and negative tone we associate with elections for public office, it has at times been competitive and lively.

No, we didn’t have attack ads or special interest groups, but there were rivalries within the region.  The nominations meeting often had a large turnout – not only to nominate candidates but also to hear what the candidates had to say.

Sometimes personalities clashed, but mostly it was civil.  More importantly, there was a small bit of turnover every year and the region was able to maintain some consistency as well as introducing a new perspective to the direction of our programs.

When I first joined the Atlanta Region board, I would have never believed that road rally would again be part of Atlanta Region.  Yet here we are in the second year of a program that continues to grow.  I wouldn’t have thought SCCA Time Trials would reorganize in a manner that allows a much easier path to participation.  But that has proven to be a real boost to a program that has struggled to grow.  I hope we’re able to add this program in the near future.

The point I’m trying to make is that the best way for Atlanta Region to continue moving forward with successful programs is with a continuous influx of new faces to regional leadership.  Think about what you want Atlanta Region SCCA to be. I hope to see you at the Nominations meeting Wednesday, October 3rd (NOTE THIS CHANGE FROM the ORIGINAL DATE).

Thanks to all of you, let me know what you think.

Bob Hudson, Regional Executive
